Before being elected to Congress in 2018 I was a law professor at UC
Irvine. I loved being around students, getting to be both a teacher and
learning new things constantly.

My job in Congress isn’t all that different. When it comes down to it,
being a Member of Congress is about teaching and learning.

My job is to learn from Californians about what problems they’re facing. I
also learn from witnesses during congressional hearings. Sometimes the
information I learn is really valuable, and other times we learn that they
have no business being in a position of power. I’m also always learning
from policy experts as we consider the best way to tackle big problems.

It’s also my job to teach people about what’s going on in Congress and how
it relates to them. I know that most people don’t watch the news all day
and only tune in if they have a few extra minutes—and that’s why I try to
get my message across quickly and effectively. I aim to show people how
policy made in Washington determines all sorts of things—from access to
abortion to what your prescription will cost.

That brings us to the whiteboard. As a teacher, I’ve spent years using a
whiteboard to break things down, so it was only natural that I brought my
whiteboard to Congress. It’s an effective tool. And it’s fun!

I’m running for the U.S. Senate so we can do this on a larger scale.
Senators sit on twice as many committees as House Members, so just
think…double the whiteboards!

I can’t do this without your help. [ [link removed] ]Can you make a gift of
