Folks,
There’s a critical fight for voting rights happening right now in Alabama.
It all started when a Republican state lawmaker introduced a bill to make absentee voting harder. The legislation would criminalize folks who help absentee voters deliver their ballots — a direct hit on organizers like our grantees who work to help folks access the polls.
In response, voting rights advocates across Alabama sprang into action and are calling out this sham bill for what it is — an attack against our sacred right to vote.
Now, they need our support to keep organizing and rallying Alabamians against this blatant attempt to take away our voting rights.
Can you pitch in $25, $10, or any amount today to help Groundwork Project support community organizers year-round in Alabama and the greater Deep South, Appalachia, and Plains? [[link removed]]

This isn’t the first time Alabama has been at the very epicenter of our nation’s fight for voting rights.
In 1965, Black voting rights activists — including Martin Luther King Jr. and the late John Lewis — marched from Selma to Montgomery, arm-in-arm, in protest of the racist voter suppression tactics that had been plaguing our democratic process for decades. Their efforts ultimately led to the passage of the historic Voting Rights Act of 1965 .
Then in 2013, the Supreme Court case Shelby v. Holder , which originated in Alabama, gutted the VRA of key protections, ripping open a window for discrimination to flood back into our elections system.
And now, the pending Supreme Court case Allen v. Milligan is yet another attempt from conservatives to undermine the VRA and dilute the voting power of Black Alabamians.
As you can see folks, our work toward a truly equal and representative democracy runs right through Alabama. And the opposition just continues to innovate and iterate when it comes to new legislation targeting our voting rights and fundamental freedoms. This bill is their latest tactic, and we know there’s more to come.
With all that being said, can you help support our organizing efforts across overlooked and underrepresented states like Alabama by chipping in today? Any amount helps. [[link removed]]
