Last night, President Trump gave his State of the Union address. And what we witnessed was a divisive and demonstrably false speech given by an emotionally fragile man.

The president promised to lower prescription drug prices, while he’s done nothing to advance legislation that would make prescriptions more affordable -- legislation that passed the House almost two months ago.

The president promised to plant a trillion trees, while he pulled us out of the Paris Climate Accord -- making ours the only country to reject the international effort to address our climate crisis.

The president promised to protect people with pre-existing conditions, while he’s currently in court trying to destroy the Affordable Care Act -- putting the health care and lives of millions of Americans at risk.

Friends, America is better than this. We deserve more than a president who obstructs in one moment and lies about it the next. We deserve more than Donald Trump and his cult following of Congressional Republicans who abandoned their principles to cheer him on at every word.

My right-wing opponent will be nothing more than a rubber stamp on Donald Trump’s cruel agenda -- an agenda that leaves working families behind and elevates the interests of the wealthy and the privileged.
