Dear John,
Standing up for the planet works—if we do it together.
This Earth Month, we wrote an open letter to EPA inspector general Sean O'Donnell. Over 2,200 people, including acclaimed chefs and influencers, added their names to our message. Together, we called on the EPA to enforce stricter emission standards at harmful factory farms.
We didn't stop there. We reached nearly 400,000 folks on social media with our Earth Month message: Change food, change everything.
Here's a breakdown of how animal agriculture harms our planet:
Greenhouse gas emissions from raising farmed animals make up 14.5 percent of global human-induced emissions.
Clearing forests for pasture and feed crops releases the carbon dioxide stored in trees and destroys ecosystems, diminishing the soil's ability to store carbon.
Each year, slaughterhouses dump millions of pounds of feces, blood, and other contaminants into rivers and streams. Check out our blog for more details.

"Everyone is losing in this system but these multinational corporations," Senator Booker declares in our Earth Day video.
Help us hold factory farms accountable.

Earth Month is more than a single opportunity to appreciate our planet. It's also a reminder of how critical our work is—and an urgent call to keep moving forward.
