keeping you up to date on all things Northeast Wisconsin The April NEWsflash Friend, Welcome back to the April edition of The NEWsflash, a collection of stories and happenings from Northeast Wisconsin over the past month. April was a busy month where we honored local leaders and veterans, welcomed new businesses, and heard from constituents on important issues. I've included some photos and highlights from a few of the events my team and I were able to attend. You can also find information on how my office can help you with any federal problem you may have. Semper Fi, Class on Congress: I visited the Father Allouez Catholic School's 3rd grade class this month who recently learned about the three branches of government, the checks and balances, and how to write a bill. During my visit, I discussed my work in Congress and listened to some of the bill proposals they developed during their lessons. A Welcome Home: On April 19, a member of my team traveled to the Appleton International Airport (ATW) to welcome home 102 local heroes who participated in the Mission 61 Old Glory Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Thank you to the men and women of Mission 61 for their unwavering service and dedication to the United States and to all the Wisconsinites who showed up to welcome give them an incredible welcome home. Good Eats: A member of my team attended the ribbon cutting event for Ong's Kitchen located in Appleton. Ong's Kitchen is a one-stop-shop for homemade, grab-and-go authentic Asian cuisine. Owner Ong Xiong and crew cut the ribbon at the grand opening of the restaurant located near Appleton North High School. Protecting the Port: Earlier this month, I attended the Brown County Port Symposium at the National Railroad Museum to highlight ways we can continue to protect the shipping industry and the waters that we rely on in Northeast Wisconsin. Thank you for having me to discuss bipartisan steps that we can take to ensure this. Oconto County Veterans Memorial: A member of my staff participated in the groundbreaking event for the Oconto County Veterans Memorial. The memorial will be located across from Copperfest Park in Oconto and will honor all veterans from Oconto County past and present. Breaking Ground: On April 3, a member of my staff attended the groundbreaking for the Village of Hobart Fire Station. The new 18,200 square-foot department that is expected to open this fall will replace the current facility that was constructed in the 1960's. The new station will include a space for an ambulance as well as updated meeting spaces. Annual Update: On Saturday, April 1, my staff attended the Oconto Electric Coopertaive Annual Meeting held at the Oconto Falls High School. During the meeting, members heard from the Cooperative's CEO, Byron Nolde, who discussed board decisions on 2022 rates and future plans of the Cooperative. Honoring our Veterans: The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Veterans Services Office held an end-of-semester Celebration Dinner for graduating veterans and veterans' dependents and family members. Veterans Services Coordinator Nicole Stockman and UWGB Chancellor Alexander presented red, white, and blue cords to veterans and veterans' dependents set to graduate this spring to help celebrate everyone's accomplishments. Local Leadership: A member of my staff had the opportunity to attend the quarterly meeting between the Forest Service and the County Forestry Departments, including the State of Wisconsin and ATV/UTV clubs throughout Northern Wisconsin. During the meeting, John Brantmeier, former chair of the Red Arrow Snowmobile ATV Club, Jim Wisneski, member of the Governor's Off-Road Vehicle Council, and Sally and Elmer Mulholoon, were awarded the "Roger Steinbach Trail Guardian of Excellence Award." NEW Business: Aaron and Allie Thiel celebrated the opening of their coworking space, C04 in Kaukauna. C04 offers hybrid workspaces, a CoStore complete with coffee and snacks, a podcast room and a Zen Den. Congratulations to Aaron and Allie Thiel on their new venture!
