Rep. Troy E. Nehls Reintroduces the Airlines Independent of Restrictions (AIR) Act Greetings! I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap on what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives. This Week in Washington Rep. Troy E. Nehls Reintroduces the Airlines Independent of Restrictions (AIR) Act EXCLUSIVE: House Republicans Introduce Bill To Kill... Republican Texas Rep. Troy Nehls reintroduced legislation Friday that would direct the secretary of transportation to rescind the two no-fly zones over Disneyland and Disney World. The Daily Caller first obtained the legislation which calls on... Read more dailycaller.com This week, I reintroduced the Airlines Independent of Restrictions (AIR) Act, a bill that would direct the Secretary of Transportation to rescind the two “no-fly zone” Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM’s) over Disneyland and Disneyworld. Disney is the only theme park in the United States that benefits from the restriction for commercial gains of eliminating banner ads and disruptive aircraft from their parks. Theme parks like Disney should not receive special treatment just because they are well-connected. Our national security should not be compromised to fit the needs of one corporation. Chairman Nehls Leads Letter to Biden Administration to Prioritize Rail Safety Over Specials Interests This week, I led fellow Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Republicans in urging the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and the Biden Administration to immediately return to prioritizing the continued testing of automated track inspection (ATI) safety technology. Prior to the Biden Administration, FRA fully supported the continued growth of ATI safety technology through FRA's Automated Track Inspection Program (ATIP). Under the Biden Administration, FRA suddenly without any valid safety reason, began denying waivers for ATI safety use. In the letter, my colleagues and I urge the FRA to reverse its dangerous and unfounded waiver denial as soon as possible and revert to the longstanding policy of fully supporting and unconditionally approving waivers to test and use railroad and track safety technologies. Read the full letter HERE. This Week in TX-22 Rep. Troy E. Nehls Tours South Texas Project (STP) Electric Generating Station This week, I toured the South Texas Project (STP) Electric Generating Station. STP is one of the two nuclear power stations in Texas. STP produces 2,600 megawatts, enough clean energy to power two million Texas homes. As the largest employer in Matagorda County, STP accounts for $2.2 billion in annual economic output. The United States has fallen behind Russia, China, and other competitor countries in its efforts to produce nuclear fuel. We must restore American nuclear energy leadership for true energy independence. Department of State: Update on Passport Processing Times The Department of State is reporting Passport processing times can be up to 10-13 weeks for routine processing and 7-9 weeks for expedited processing. These times do not include mail delivery service estimates. With summer break quickly approaching, if you need help securing your passport, please call my district office at 346-762-6600. My office is here to serve you! Service Academy Nominations Are Now Open My office is now accepting Service Academy Nominations. One of the privileges of serving in the United States House of Representatives is the opportunity to nominate outstanding young people from the 22nd Congressional District of Texas to be considered for appointment to our nation’s service academies. Admission to a service academy is a two-tiered process. First, the candidate must meet the minimum standards set by the individual academy. Second, the candidate must complete the congressional application by October 6, 2023, to be considered for an interview in our office with the nomination review board. Please note, the ultimate selection of appointees rests solely with academy officials and is based on their competitive evaluation of all nominees. The checklist and application can be found on my website. If you have any questions, please email [email protected] or call my district office at 346-762-6600.
