Just yesterday, Republicans in Raleigh passed an abortion ban that dramatically reduces women’s health care freedom. They pulled out all the stops to push it through without any amendments because they know that it’s exactly the opposite of what the people want.

Right-wing politicians say this is a reasonable 12-week ban. It’s not.

The fine print effectively bans medication abortion at 10 weeks. It requires three in-person clinic visits without any medical justification, and many women can’t afford the time, travel, and money for that — if there are even any clinics left for them to visit at all.

The legislation lays out new burdensome and unnecessary requirements that are aimed at causing many clinics to shut their doors.

This bill has nothing to do with making women safer, and everything to do with banning abortion in North Carolina.

I will veto this awful bill, but I need your help, John.

Republican legislators like Ted Davis and Michael Lee from Wilmington and John Bradford and Tricia Cotham from Mecklenburg County made campaign promises to protect women’s reproductive health.

We only need one Republican in either the House or Senate to help sustain the veto of this dangerous abortion ban and there’s still time for them to keep their promise.

All of us who believe in the fundamental right to make our own reproductive choices must now stand together, no matter where we live.
