How could that not be Clarence Thomas’ first thought!?

Hank Johnson for Congress

John,

The steady drip of new information about GOP mega-donor Harlan Crow financing the life of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas is getting downright embarrassing.

Become a citizen co-sponsor of the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act — the bill I introduced to hold Supreme Court justices accountable to a code of ethics — by signing your name today →

Yesterday, ProPublica reported that Crow paid for Thomas’ grandnephew’s private school tuition. That’s after they reported that Crow had paid Thomas in an undisclosed real estate transaction and that Crow had paid for Thomas’ vacations on Crow’s megayacht, frequent stays at a resort, and travel on a private jet.

If a right-wing billionaire suddenly took an interest in your life and started paying for your vacations, your travel, your family’s education, and your spouse’s salary, what would be your first thought?

My first thought would be: “What does this billionaire want from me?”

It’s cringeworthy every time I hear Republicans try to say that Harlan Crow is one of Thomas’ “dearest friends.”

They weren’t friends until after Thomas was a Supreme Court justice. A friendship built on ‘you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours’ is no friendship at all.

If the Supreme Court won’t take its own ethics problems seriously, Congress must step in to hold justices accountable and restore faith in the Supreme Court. I’ve introduced legislation to create and enforce a code of ethics for Supreme Court justices, and I’d like you to join me as a citizen co-sponsor of the bill.

Thank you, John.
