USAF Orders Stand-Down to Combat Rising Suicide Rate

The Air Force on Aug. 1 ordered all units to stop operations for one day to address the service's growing suicide rate, which is rising at a pace not seen in years. Units have 45 days to schedule their operational pause. As of the end of July, 79 suicides had occurred in the Air Force in 2019⁠—nearly as many as were recorded last year in about half the time.
