USAF Orders Stand-Down to Combat Rising Suicide Rate
The Air Force on Aug. 1 ordered all units to stop operations for one day to address the service's growing suicide rate, which is rising at a pace not seen in years. Units have 45 days to schedule their operational pause. As of the end of July, 79 suicides had occurred in the Air Force in 2019—nearly as many as were recorded last year in about half the time.
