John –
I recently sat down with the Washington Examiner for a wide-ranging interview on some of the biggest debates happening in Washington, D.C. and across the country. During the interview, I debunked the left’s false narratives about “assault weapons” and pushed back on their calls to ban certain types of firearms. I also addressed the threat posed by TikTok and called for action against the Chinese spyware app.
As always, thank you for your support. Now, here’s your brief:

DEBUNKING THE LEFT'S NARRATIVES ABOUT "ASSAULT WEAPONS"
|
|
The left’s immediate response to any type of shooting in America is always focused on banning so-called “assault weapons.” That is nonsensical because rifles, which the left refers to as “assault weapons,” account for a small percentage of gun violence in the United States. According to the latest available data, handguns were involved in the vast majority (59%) of murders in the U.S. Rifles account for just 3% of firearm murders.
Despite that fact, the left always pushes for an “assault weapons ban” after shootings, especially after tragedies at our schools. The common narrative from the left and much of the media after these tragedies is always to go after guns. They want to ban certain types of guns and prevent law-abiding Americans from owning firearms like an AR-15, which millions of Americans use for legitimate self-defense purposes. The left’s solutions will undermine the Second Amendment while doing nothing to actually prevent these tragedies in the first place.
The best way to solve this problem without trampling on our Second Amendment rights is to put armed security guards at every school in America. Texas alone allocated $400 million for school security upgrades. Most schools already have armed security guards but we need to make sure they ALL do. Taking away guns from law-abiding Americans won’t stop school shootings. Putting armed guards at every school in America will.

TIKTOK IS A CHINESE PSYCHOLOGICAL WEAPON
|
|
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) would like nothing more than to see the demise of the United States of America. The CCP flies spy balloons over our country, supplies the Mexican drug cartels with chemicals used to produce the fentanyl that kills tens of thousands of Americans every year, and now we are beginning to understand the threat posed by their latest weapon against the United States: TikTok.
TikTok presents a unique threat to the American people. Tens of millions of Americans - mostly young people - use the highly-addictive social media app. And while TikTok is branded as this harmless, privately owned company, the truth is much more concerning.
As I pointed out during a congressional hearing with TikTok’s CEO, TikTok presents serious security risks to the United States and everyone who uses the app. TikTok is owned by a Chinese company called ByteDance. Under Chinese law, all Chinese companies must cooperate with the CCP in intelligence activities and maintain the secrecy of those intelligence operations. In other words, ByteDance, and its subsidiaries like TikTok, must cooperate with the CCP whenever they are called upon, and if they are called upon they are bound by law to keep such cooperation a secret.
Moreover, as I explained in my interview with the Washington Examiner, the CCP has successfully addicted 150 million Americans to an app that the Chinese government controls completely. That means that the Chinese Communist Party can control what TikTok users see on the app, which they will undoubtedly use to push pro-CCP narratives and censor anything that could paint the communist regime in a negative light. In fact, TikTok’s own executives have testified that the company censored content that was critical of China, including videos about the CCP’s human rights abuses against Uyghurs.
I’ve helped lead the fight against TikTok in Congress, including calling for Members of Congress to stop using the app in their official capacity (yes, some Members of Congress still use the app despite the well-known security risks). Remember, the CCP will do anything to undermine the security, culture, and prosperity of the United States. TikTok is just one of the CCP’s weapons against us, and we must take this threat seriously.
