John,
Yesterday, I was honored to speak at the American Economic Liberties Project's Anti-Monopoly Summit. The reality is corporate monopolies harm our country and hurt American families.
Growing up in Braddock, I became an anti-monopolist through lived experience. I saw firsthand how corporations chose their own wealth over our health and put profits over people. As a child, I didn't understand the details of antitrust, but everyone in our region understood what was happening.
After decades of deregulation by state and federal government, corporate power is more concentrated than ever — and nowhere is that more clear than at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC).
UPMC has a monopoly on health care in Western Pennsylvania, operating 40 hospitals in the region. Recently, State Rep. Sara Innamorato and I released a report with the American Economic Liberties Project detailing how UPMC's monopoly harms both health care workers and patients.
As PA-12's Congresswoman, I'm committed to using every tool to hold UPMC and all corporate monopolies accountable. Will you donate $5 today to fund our work to protect workers and advance anti-monopoly efforts?
I didn't get involved in this because I wanted to pick fights with large corporations like UPMC. I got involved in this because the heart of our progressive movement has to be workers, and workers are driving this effort.
Workers are putting forth the agenda and organizing model to take on corporate giants, and it's my responsibility as Congresswoman to support them. That's why I'm legislating to ban non-competes, break up monopolies, support workers' ability to unionize, and get corporate money out of politics.
The reality is the victories we're working towards now are going to have an effect on what comes next in communities across the country and for the next generation of workers.
The people of PA-12 sent me to Congress to take on the billionaire CEOs, union-busters, and price gougers ripping our families off. We're more powerful when we work together, so John, will you chip in $5 or more today to strengthen our movement?
Thank you,
Summer
