DEVELOPING… House Republicans have just narrowly passed a bill that would force deep cuts to virtually every environmental agency. They’re threatening to allow the government to default on its debt — triggering a massive economic crisis — if they don’t get their way.
Their plan is a non-starter for the pro-environment majority in the Senate, but unless we fight back right now, there’s a real risk that some
anti-environment provisions could become law in a compromise deal.
We need to escalate our campaign to reach as many lawmakers as possible before they reach a deal. That’s where you come in, Friend.
The truth is, we didn’t meet our Annual Fund goal at the end of April. That shortfall could have a big impact on how big our campaigns can go. If we fail, Republicans could gut even the most basic environmental safeguards. So we’re asking:
Because this is so important, we’ve extended our Annual Fund Drive to power our campaign until Congress votes to avoid a default without harming our environment. The best way to help right now is to chip in and bring us closer to our $45,000 goal — even $5 helps >>

House Republicans’ nonstarter ‘Default on America Act’ to ostensibly avoid default reads like a hostage letter:
it demands deep cuts to environmental protections and clean energy, including
- slashing the Inflation Reduction Act’s clean energy provisions;
- gutting critical environmental protections; and
- passing new policies to expand fossil fuel development.
If they don’t get their way, House Republicans are saying they'll put the government into default. They’re also demanding draconian cuts to
every environmental agency — severely curtailing programs that keep communities safe from polluted air, land, and water.
We can’t let that happen, Friend.
We need more resources to scale up our pressure campaign and reach as many members of Congress and administration officials as possible. More resources will mean more calls, more letters, more advocates
demanding that the Senate and the President reject House Republicans’ hostage taking.
We need your help to defeat Republicans’ dirty default deal. Chip in to LCV’s Annual Fund Drive right now to bring us closer to our goal and power our campaign — even $5 can make a difference >>
I’m so thankful to have you with us in this fight. When we join together, I know that we can stop these anti-environmental attacks. Stay tuned for more updates on our campaign.
