Endangered species are being pushed toward extinction.
John,
Two specific pesticides are pushing Southern Resident orcas and 36 other aquatic endangered species closer to extinction — including virtually all salmon, steelhead and sturgeon.
The two pesticides — carbaryl and methomyl — are some of the worst agricultural chemicals on the market. They’re used recklessly across the United States, despite being neurotoxins that may also harm people. NOAA Fisheries has sounded the alarm, but the Environmental Protection Agency is failing to act.
The law is clear: NOAA Fisheries’ scientific analysis on protecting endangered species from these pesticides is on point and must be implemented. But the agencies are likely under tremendous pressure from industry to water down recommended conservation measures.
