You know what makes me mad, John?
It makes me mad that state-level Republicans are passing increasingly draconian abortion bans. It makes me mad that GOP lawmakers continue to find new and creative ways to attack our most fundamental rights.
And it makes me especially mad when these Republicans claim that their extremist policies are based on medical evidence, concern for women, or anything other than abject cruelty and desperation for power.
I'm writing to you with a roundup of infuriating abortion news from Republican-controlled states, so you know what we're up against. But first, if you're as sick of this dangerous anti-choice agenda as I am, will you donate now to help elect Democratic pro-choice women who can fight back?

- Just when we thought the blows couldn't get any lower in the Lone Star State, Republican lawmakers in Texas are working on a truly shocking and unprecedented piece of legislation that, if passed, would censor all online information about abortion access in the state. It could even prohibit health care providers from communicating with patients about (legal!) abortion options online -- either through private messaging portals or during telemedicine appointments.
- Yesterday, the North Carolina state legislature became the latest to pass its own abortion ban. Although the Tar Heel State has a Democratic governor, state Republicans now have a big enough majority to override the governor's veto after a Democratic legislator recently switched parties. When it goes into effect, the 12-week ban will severely limit access for North Carolinians, and for many people across the South.
- And finally, a recent study shows that in Idaho, nearly half of all maternal health doctors are either leaving or thinking about leaving the state in the next year. This means that labor and delivery units will continue to shut down -- as some already have -- and it means that pregnant folks in Idaho will have to either move or risk being pregnant in a state with limited medical resources.
I want to be crystal clear: None of this legislation, in any of these states, is based in science or medical necessity or concern for safety. It's about controlling our bodies, period. It's a blatant attack on women, with devastating effects for trans and nonbinary people, too. The cruelty of these laws isn't a side issue -- it's the entire point.
They can't get away with this, John. When you give to EMILYs List, your contribution supports hundreds of women, all across the country, on the frontlines of the fight for abortion rights. Donate now, and let's stop this cruelty in its tracks:
