John --

Happy Cinco de Mayo! We hope you're ready to celebrate with our signature margarita recipe. But this isn't just any old margarita – this one has only the best. So, without further ado, here's the recipe for our Country First Margarita:

<[link removed]>Ingredients:

2 oz. democracy

1 oz. freedom

1 oz. truth

1 oz. reasonableness

1 oz. lime juice (freshly squeezed, for a little tang)

Salt (to taste)

and the not-so-secret ingredient... YOU

<[link removed]>Order a Round <[link removed]>

Instructions:

- Take a tall glass and fill it with all of the ingredients above. Don't be stingy – you deserve the best!

- Add some ice, and give it a good shake, like you're shaking off the chains of tyranny.

- Rim the glass with salt, to taste. This is optional, but it adds a nice touch of flavor and tradition.

- Finally, sit back, relax, and enjoy your Country First Margarita!

We may not be able to celebrate together in person, but we can still raise a glass and toast to our shared values. And while you enjoy it, check out our Movement Memo below, prepared by our incredible volunteers for you.

Cheers!

Country First Team

COUNTERING DISINFORMATION

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution <[link removed]>: The Jolt: Raffensperger calls disinformation top threat to democracy

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger was in Chicago Thursday speaking to national political reporters at the University of Chicago's Institute of Politics. Georgia's top election official discussed overseeing the 2020 Georgia elections, the lessons he learned and some of the fallout from the chaos.

Asked by journalist John Harwood about the "weakest link in the chain" for American democracy today, Raffensperger said it isn’t voting machines or election officials, which former President Donald Trump wrongly blamed for "election fraud." Instead, Raffensperger pointed to disinformation from candidates and bad actors.

ELECTION REFORM

Boise State Public Radio <[link removed]>: Organizers launch initiative to open Idaho's primaries, implement ranked choice voting

A coalition of community groups announced Tuesday a new ballot initiative to hold open primaries and implement ranked-choice voting in Idaho. That includes Reclaim Idaho, which has successfully qualified two ballot initiatives in recent years.

All statewide elected officials are Republican. About 83% of state legislative seats are held by GOP lawmakers, with the primary often acting as the only competitive election.

NBC Philadelphia <[link removed]>: Pa. Senators Introduce Bill to Allow Independents to Vote in Primaries

Two Pennsylvania senators have introduced legislation that would allow independent voters to vote in primary elections in Pennsylvania.

Pennsylvania currently has closed primaries, which means only voters who are registered with a certain party can vote in primary elections, such as the one coming up on Tuesday, May 16. Pennsylvania has 926,842 voters with no party affiliation, according to the Pennsylvania Department of State.

Statesman Journal <[link removed]>: Volunteers hopeful new amendment will bring open primaries to Oregon

Volunteers behind the effort to bring open primaries to Oregon voters hope a new petition filed this week will result in a new ballot title from the state attorney general. A previous ballot measure, Initiative Petition 16, was submitted last year.

The organization behind the proposal, All Oregon Votes, collected 1,000 signatures to move forward. But the group disagreed with the ballot title generated in January by the Oregon Justice Department.
