Earlier this year, the United States reached its debt ceiling – the amount of money it's able to borrow. Our country has been on the verge of economic disaster for weeks, yet Republicans are continuing to hold our economy hostage in order to make major cuts to vital programs.
Last week, Kevin McCarthy and House Republicans passed their debt-limit bill, which makes spending cuts that would seriously harm children, veterans, and hardworking families.
Since the debt ceiling discussions have begun, I've been listening to people throughout the 8th District about their concerns.
Families and educators are concerned about cuts to their school districts. Schools and Head Start programs already don't have the funding they need, and McCarthy's proposed cuts will only make it more difficult for every child to have equal opportunity for a good education. McCarthy's bill also makes major cuts to important services like health care and housing for veterans.
I'll always work to ensure vital programs have the funding they need, but now, I want to hear from you. Do you support Kevin McCarthy's reckless debt-limit proposal?
