The ACLU is awaiting some big decisions from the Supreme Court – and we wanted to make sure you knew about several key cases that could have far-reaching impacts on our civil liberties. Here are three cases threatening our rights that you should watch out for:

1. Keeping Native Families Together
   
   The Indian Child Welfare Act was passed by Congress in 1978 to address the nationwide epidemic of indigenous children being forcibly removed from their homes, families, and tribes by government agencies. The Supreme Court is considering overturning this bedrock law, so the ACLU filed an amicus brief to protect Indigenous rights. Read more.
2. Protecting Affirmative Action
   
   The Supreme Court is considering two cases that could end affirmative action, which has helped to address our country's long history of discrimination and systemic inequality in higher education. If the Court decides to do so, it would threaten diversity and inclusion on campuses everywhere. All students deserve equitable access to education, which is why the ACLU supports race-conscious admissions policies. Read more.
3. Defending our Democracy
   
   We're also waiting for a ruling from the Supreme Court any day now in our case challenging Alabama's new congressional maps, Merrill v. Milligan. The state's district lines reinforce discrimination in voting, diluting Black voting power, and denying Black voters the opportunity to elect representatives of their choice. But Black voters deserve to be heard and counted. It's essential for SCOTUS to uphold the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (VRA) and require Alabama to redraw the maps fairly. Read more.

As our opponents continue to attack our rights, strike down equity and inclusion policies, and weaken our democracy, we're doing everything we can to fight back – not just at SCOTUS but in courts across the states and at every level.
