Mazie Hirono won her election to the Senate in 2012, after representing Hawai’i for three terms in the House of Representatives.
Upon her victory, Hirono became the first female Senator to represent Hawai’i, as well as the first Asian-born immigrant to ever serve in the Senate.
In the Senate, Hirono has advanced countless progressive causes, including Medicare for All and Universal Pre-K, and is a strong advocate for the voices and concerns of Native Hawai’ians.
