John, it’s time
to get dark money out of our elections.

Since the Supreme Court ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election
Commission, we’ve seen the influence of political spending and dark money
increase drastically in our elections.

That’s why Pramila introduced the We The People Amendment to finally
kneecap corporate political spending. By stipulating that the First
Amendment applies only to “natural persons” rather than corporations, this
amendment would effectively reverse the U.S. Supreme Court’s final ruling
in 2010.

John, if we want
to make sure our upcoming elections are free of dark money and accurately
represent the voice of the people, we need to overturn Citizens United and

Corporations are not people, and money is not speech,
John. And in every cycle since
the disastrous Citizens United decision, we’ve seen more and more special
interests pour dark money into campaigns across the country. This has to
stop.

Through television, radio, and digital ads, interest groups have been able
to spend an unruly amount of money to influence our elections. An
estimated $8.9 billion dollars was spent during the 2022 midterms making
it the most expensive Congressional election cycle. And Super PACs have
infiltrated our politics to disregard campaign finance laws and ethics.

We can no longer ignore the immense growth of corporate power and corrupt
political influence from the endless sums of dark money in our elections.
And as a champion of the people, Pramila understands how vital preserving
the integrity of our elections is to ensuring that our democracy
accurately reflects our country.

Pramila is committed to breaking down the pillars of injustice that have
upheld our government for far too long. And the We The People Amendment is
the systemic and tangible solution that matches the urgency of this
moment.
