John, Since taking control of the House earlier this year, the GOP’s priorities have included fighting amongst themselves, advancing their extremist agenda, and playing political games instead of helping the American people. After House Republicans finally agreed on who would lead their party as Speaker, the House Oversight and Accountability Committee announced plans to launch a series of partisan investigations for political show. They also quickly eliminated the Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, choosing political games instead of holding those who violate human rights accountable. It has never been more clear that the GOP’s extremist beliefs are overreaching, undemocratic, and downright dangerous. Last year, we warned that this would happen if they gained enough power to control Congress, and now we’re seeing what happens when we allow self-interested politicians who prioritize the wealthy and well-connected to take office. Although the GOP holds the House majority for the next two years, we will not be complacent. Time after time, they have demonstrated that they are unfit to lead, and that’s why Lauren is working to replace these far-right extremists with leaders who will work alongside her to make progress. We need members of Congress who will focus on issues like protecting reproductive freedom, addressing the Black maternal health crisis, lowering the costs of prescription drugs, and defending our voting rights.
