UK farmers are still burning toxic plastics

Farmers in the UK continue to burn or bury the toxic plastics used in food production despite the practices being banned. The third report in our new four-part Cultivating Plastic series revealed that mismanagement of agriplastic waste occurs throughout the food supply chain. UK farms produce about 135,500 tonnes of contaminated agricultural plastic waste a year, roughly the weight of 900 adult blue whales, but only 20-30 per cent of it is reprocessed into new products, while the rest is disposed of.

China’s revised wildlife law a missed chance

As China’s amended Wildlife Protection Law came into effect on 1 May, EIA voiced concern that it allows and encourages the use of threatened wild animals for commercial purposes and called on the Government to continue to review the law and end this.
