North Korea to Turning Point USA
Turning Point USA would like to introduce you to our newest Contributor, North Korean defector, human rights activist, and self described “Enemy Of The Woke,” Yeonmi Park!
“We don’t have any option other than fighting and giving everything we have to preserve the liberty of this country”
- Yeonmi Park
Born in North Korea in 1993 and growing up during the North Korean Famine, Yeonmi experienced the dangers of communism. Yeonmi and her mother were forced to flee to China after her father was sent to a labor camp. It was in China, where Yeonmi and her mother fell into the hands of human traffickers and were sold into slavery. They heroically escaped to Mongolia before resettling in South Korea, where Yeonmi started her work as an advocate for victims of human trafficking in China.
In 2014, Yeonmi relocated to New York City, and a year later in 2015, she finished her memoir, “In Order To Live: A North Korean Girl’s Journey to Freedom.” She has written for the Washington Post, been a featured guest on The Joe Rogan Experience, appeared on Fox News, given TED Talks, and more. Yeonmi has amassed over 1 million Youtube subscribers and over 500k followers on Instagram.
Yeonmi is deeply passionate about helping bring about a renaissance in American education, especially after experiencing anti-western sentiment taught by professors at Columbia University. She has compared the indoctrination she grew up with in North Korea to the education she received in America, saying, "They teach you to think the way they want you to think".
We are honored and so excited to announce that Yeonmi Park will be joining the team as our newest TPUSA Contributor, speaking to our college and high school chapters all across the country!
