To hold onto the Arab American identity and proudly wear it today is sometimes difficult. As such, having a space for Arab Americans to fully express themselves is even more crucial. But it only takes the inspirational lead of one person to set the curve for others. Here at ACCESS, we are dedicated to community building and service, and we are especially committed to uplifting the members of our community whose unwavering support and generosity embody the spirit of compassion by honoring them as the Arab American of the Year.

Arab American of the Year:
Dr. Anan Ameri

A champion of this sentiment is our 2020 Awardee, renowned scholar, respected author, passionate activist and founding director of the Arab American National Museum, Dr. Anan Ameri, who has figuratively and literally created a space for Arab Americans to feel at home. Many walk through the Museum doors and feel an immediate sense of recognition and family, thanks to Dr. Ameri’s vision.

A living legacy, Dr. Ameri has tirelessly dedicated her career to advocating for social justice and equity, immigrant rights and uplifting and preserving Arab American stories. She is a recognized community leader and decorated award winner, and was inducted into the Michigan Hall of Fame in 2016.
