The implications of this breach of voter software cannot be ignored or understated. That is why we wrote a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland, Special Counsel Jack Smith and Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Chris Wray urging an immediate investigation into these efforts.

The copied information and software, which have been shared covertly with a network of election deniers, pose a dangerous threat during the next election cycle. They have already been used by those making false and outrageous claims of electoral fraud in the 2020 election, and it’s unclear how many people have downloaded the software in the United States or abroad.

For the sake of preserving faith in our democracy, we must ensure that our voting infrastructure is secure. The Department of Justice and the FBI have a responsibility to investigate this matter and prevent the illegally copied software by Trump operatives from influencing future elections.
