John,
Calling all fans of art and Ranked Choice Voting — we’ve got just the thing for you! Congressman Dean Phillips, a huge proponent of Ranked Choice Voting both here in Minnesota and at the national level, is holding a contest for talented student artists in Minnesota’s Third Congressional District. The winning piece of art, which is decided by Ranked Choice Voting, gets hung in Rep. Phillip’s office for the next year!

In art competitions as in public elections, Ranked Choice Voting is an easy and fair way to allow voters to express the full range of their preferences. Just as there is often more than one candidate in a race that merits voters’ support, there is more than one piece of art that deserves recognition!
In addition to the people’s vote, a panel of art students will judge the art submissions and award winners at tonight’s award ceremony at the Minnetonka Art Center, starting at 5:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend and hear from Congressman Phillips.
In his press release announcing the art contest, he says, “This year, the People’s Choice Award will be decided using RCV, a system that is proven to build consensus and discourage division.” He said he supports RCV for congressional races and state races such as governorships and plans to introduce legislation, called the Voters Choice Act, which he says is “aimed at supporting state and local governments that choose to adopt RCV. The legislation provides financial resources and technical assistance to communities seeking to adopt RCV without imposing a mandate on communities not yet ready for change.”
We applaud Congressman Phillips for his work in promoting this vital democracy reform and congratulate all the Third Congressional District art students who are participating in the art contest.
Jeanne
