# [#]John,
Currently, Speaker McCarthy is refusing to raise the debt ceiling unless the government also cuts spending — namely spending on programs like Social Security.
To put it simply: the Speaker is holding the full faith and credit of the United States hostage so that he can raid the Social Security funds that our seniors rely on.
No, Mr. Speaker. Not on my watch.
I’ve spent my career fighting to protect Social Security. While it may need reforms, cuts are NOT the answer. I simply won’t stand for it.
If you’re with me, will you add your name now to tell the GOP to keep their hands off Social Security? [[link removed]]

John, 66 million retirees , disabled workers, and others receive monthly Social Security benefits. Almost two-thirds of beneficiaries rely on Social Security for half of their income. For 40% of Social Security recipients, the payment makes up at least 90% of their income.
This program should NOT be cut. It’s as simple as that.
If you agree, please add your name now.
Thanks so much,
Jan
