Dear
Reader,
As I draw this Annual Report series to a close, let me reiterate my gratitude to you for making the FIRST THINGS enterprise possible through your readership. If you have not already taken a look at our 2022 Annual Report, visit our website here ([link removed]) . Or, access a flip-book version here ([link removed]) .

It was a good year. We averaged more than 28,000 paid subscribers. We published 427 web exclusive articles to firstthings.com, which welcomed 3.22 million unique visitors. Our two podcasts totaled 3.67 million listens. And our social media accounts grew in popularity, exceeding 140,000 followers.

Our most popular articles and podcasts evince the characteristic depth and breadth of FIRST THINGS. Aaron Renn’s “three worlds” model has become the default framework for Christians trying to make sense of our new cultural reality. Dana Gioia’s “Christianity and Poetry” reminded more than a few readers why they love poetry and the liturgy. I could go on.

Last year’s triumphs merit celebration. I invite you, as a reader of FIRST THINGS, to celebrate these accomplishments with us. Yet today I write to publicly establish last year’s successes as this year’s baselines. With your support, we will add subscribers, publish more articles, and continue to grow FIRST THINGS in reach and influence.

Today, I invite you to deepen your investment in the FIRST THINGS project by making a tax-deductible gift in support of our work. Give today at firstthings.com/donate ([link removed]) or by using the secure button below.

Looking ahead, we have prepared an exciting series of public events and digital media content to complement our publication of FIRST THINGS magazine, web exclusive articles on firstthings.com, and two podcasts.

On August 11-12, we will host our annual FIRST THINGS Intellectual Retreat at the Union League Club of New York ([link removed]) . Our topic: Creation and Fall. Classicist Kyle Harper will deliver our 2023 Austin Lecture on “Christianity and the Idea of Human Dignity.” In the coming weeks, we will announce of our thirty-sixth annual Erasmus Lecture honoree and plans for our inaugural public conversation in Chicago.

I hope to see you at one of these events later this year. In the meantime, please consider making a charitable gift to amplify the voice of FIRST THINGS in a pivotal year for our politics, culture, and communities of faith. Give now using this link ([link removed]) or the secure button below.
