COFFEE WITH THE MAYOR (VAL ZUDANS)
Main Street of Vero Beach hosts Coffee with the Mayor once a month. It is a great networking opportunity and a chance for attendees to advertise local events and businesses. It is also good to hear what is going on in Indian River County from the mayor. It is important for Democrats in our county to attend and let the mayor know we are part of this community, too. Downtown Friday is August 30th and we need volunteers to man our booth for the following shifts:
5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Voter Suppression

DEMOCRAT CLUB OF INDIAN RIVER
The August meeting of the Democratic Club will feature Alex Berrios of the Florida Democratic Party. Alex will provide an overview of state party initiatives for 2020 and his involvement as our region's Community Engagement Director. We want to be fired up and ready to go!

VOTEBUILDER/VAN TRAINING
For those of you who are interested in learning more about the voter database in Florida, our regional coordinator Alex Berrios will be here on August 13th from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. to train people on phone banking, canvassing, and scripts. DINING WITH THE DEMS
Our next Dining with the Dems is on August 5th at the Ona Luau Restaurant. Social Hour is from 6 – 7 p.m., Dinner is at 7 p.m. and the guest speaker is Sue Flak who is the Indian River County Recycling Coordinator. BACK TO SCHOOL DRIVE
The Florida Young Democrats of Indian River are holding their Annual Back to School Supply Drive on August 4th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Kilted Mermaid (1937 Old Dixie Hwy, Vero Beach). All school supplies will be donated to Youth Guidance. Bring your supplies, stay for DragO, and eat some great food. Your school supply donation gets you 5, yes 5, free cards for DragO!

LEISURE SQUARE POOL UPDATE AND PETITION
The decision on the Leisure Square pool is still up in the air. For those of you who may not know, this is the only public pool in the city of Vero Beach. It is where the Special Olympics, Vero Beach High School Swim Team and Master Swimmers train. For many, it is the only access to a pool they have.
There are two important upcoming dates for action – the City Council meeting on 8/20 at 3 p.m. and a Membership sign-up/Community Fun day on 8/24. There is also an online petition to sign. Details for all are below.
Leisure Square Day - Jam Packed Free Community Fun Day

The City of Vero Beach Recreation Department invites the community to a fun filled day at their premier activity center - Leisure Square. And it's free.
Enjoy coffee by Starbucks when the facility opens at 7 a.m. Then swim in the lifeguarded pool - exercise on new equipment - take Annie's yoga class at 10am - watch the Aerial Antics Youth Circus performers at 10:30am - take a basketball clinic - turkey shoot at 11am. on the basketball courts - and more throughout the day.
The Recreation Department will serve free hot dogs and cold drinks from 11am. to 1pm while the IRC Mental Health Association will host an Ice Cream Social from 11am-1:30pm.
While you are there, sign up for gymnastic, fitness classes and membership in the gym.
