I hate the State of the Union. It’s about the monarchic institution of
the presidency and the celebration of an elected king. It’s garbage.
But this past weekend, an event took place I hate even more: the White House Correspondents' Dinner.
The WHCD is an open celebration of the elite class who hate you, the regular American. It’s
Republicans and Democrats getting together to prove that there is, in fact, a “unique party of elites”
who really like each other and hang out behind closed doors, who don't care very much about
the people they are supposed to represent – you.
These politicians are supposed to be your representatives, reflecting your opinions and interests
in the halls of power. These journalists are supposed to be your representatives, presenting
truth to you so you can make informed decisions. Instead, they're all getting together and patting each other on the back.

Now, there's nothing wrong with having friends who are across the political aisle from you. There's
nothing wrong with going to confabs with people you disagree with. But, there is something wrong with
people getting together to celebrate why they are so superior to everyone else, and how none of the standards apply to them.
And that's what the White House Correspondents' Dinner is.
It's why Donald Trump, to his credit, boycotted the White House Correspondents' Dinner. He was willing to
recognize, as the many other Republicans who were actually at this White House Correspondents' Dinner do not,
that the WHCD is just a place where people who hate Republicans show up to hate Republicans.
The guest list for the WHCD is The Blob. According to Politico, Brittney Griner showed up with Gayle King.
RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel walked over to DNC Chair Jaime Harrison, their first in-person meeting. Kellyanne
Conway chatted with Maine Governor Janet Mills. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer posed with Julia Fox
in Black Swan makeup, and RCC Chair Richard Hudson became starry eyed when he met Justin Hartland from
his all time favorite TV show, This Is Us. Tennessee State Representative Justin Pearson confronted a woman
for pushing his fiancee, and stars and reporters at the Fox News table looked uncomfortable during jokes
about Tucker Carlson. It's all the glitterati and they're all together because they're all part of the same
general coterie. But this is a public party, and it's designed to demonstrate to the American public
that these are the members of your governing class.
It’s just The Hunger Games.

Just how close are connections between all the people in the room? At the top of the show, ABC News Karen
Travers gave an award to the Washington Post's Matt Viser as the journalist of the year. What was his
accomplishment? He wrote articles talking about the magic and wonder of Joe Biden. Then he got his picture
taken with Joe Biden. What a hero of the journalistic establishment!

If you wonder why the outsider appeal of people like Donald Trump was so big in 2016, it’s because of nonsense like this.
Many of us actually care about the policies that emerge in Washington, D.C., and don't understand why the Blob – again,
a bunch of people who are supposed to represent us – is so disconnected from us.
We don’t get why Barack Obama, who is a politician, has a Netflix deal in Hollywood. We don’t get why Hollywood
makes movies about journalists, who cover for Democratic politicians. It all seems unreal. Because it is.
So the question is this: when we see all the elites chuckling it up over champagne, do these friendships exist
despite political differences or do these friendships exist because many of these people don't actually have
any political differences? A good question to ponder as we move through into the week.
