Last year, in Michigan, our Rooted in Community Leadership PAC supported dozens of candidates and grassroots organizations on the state and local level. And now, for the first time in 40 years, we control the Michigan State House and the Governor’s office―and we took back the State Supreme Court.
But controlling the legislative, executive, and judicial branches aren’t just symbolic victories. Progressives in Michigan are doing exactly what we elected them to do.
One of the first orders of business in Michigan was repealing Michigan’s extreme 1931 abortion ban. And last month, Michigan Governor Whitmer signed common-sense gun reforms into law, including universal background checks and gun safety storage legislation.
I founded the Rooted in Community Leadership PAC to build progressive power in Congress and across the country. And last election we donated more than $128,000 to progressive candidates and organizations.

As we elect more candidates who are rooted in their communities, we’re seeing massive opposition from corporate and right-wing interests that are invested in maintaining the unjust status quo.
In my re-election campaign, we were met with over $1 million of opposition from wealthy out-of-state donors who are threatened by our power and our movement for change. And we weren’t alone.
In Pennsylvania, Summer Lee overcame at least $2.5 million of outside spending to win her Democratic primary and eventually her general election to become the state’s first Black Congresswoman. We were proud to support Summer and progressives up and down the ballot.
