The history of gubernatorial campaigns in Washington is interesting, and could be surprising if you always view Washington as a “safe blue” state. In 2024, we have the rare opportunity of campaigning for an open Governor’s seat, meaning the incumbent Governor Jay Inslee isn’t running for another term. This doesn’t happen often — 2004 and 2012 were the last elections where this was the case.
In these instances, the average margin of victory was just 1.5%.
And in the most recent campaign for Governor without an incumbent, the Republican Governors Association spent over $11 million. And, quite frankly, we can expect them to spend even more in this race.
History shows us that when there is a gubernatorial election for an open seat in Washington, we can’t assume anything other than it will be a lot of work and very expensive. Which is why we need your support.
