Kevin McCarthy's spending plan was passed in the House, and it will hurt countless Ohioans and hold the full faith and credit of the United States hostage. It would inflict devastating cuts to our rural communities, raise costs for hard-working families, and set back economic growth.
Speaker McCarthy’s plan:
Endangers public safety and negatively impacts public health by cutting 330 rail safety inspections in Ohio alone, denying 2,000 Ohioans admission to opioid treatment, and shutting down at least 5 air traffic control towers in our state.
Raises costs for families and students by eliminating 12,300 preschool and child care slots in Ohio, stripping food assistance from 426,000 Ohioans, making college more expensive for 200,000 Ohioans, and raising housing costs for more than 23,000 Ohioans.
Harms seniors and veterans by worsening Social Security and Medicare assistance wait times for 2.6 million seniors in Ohio and threatening medical care for Ohio veterans with a quarter million fewer outpatient visits available.
The bill was shortsighted, and that’s why I voted no and am urging you to sign on to my petition to tell Kevin McCarthy to stop playing politics with our nation’s economy.
