Racism is a public health crisis.
That’s why Ayanna — in partnership with Rep. Barbara Lee and Sen. Elizabeth Warren — just re-introduced the Anti-Racism in Public Health Act, legislation that will address the structural racism that has affected Black and Brown communities for generations.
This legislation is the first bill of its kind. It would expand federal research into structural racism and its impact on Black and Brown communities. In addition, it will require the federal government to develop anti-racist health policies and take a public health approach to eradicating police violence.
Systemic racism is a public health crisis, and our response must match the scale of the challenge. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated racial disparities in health outcomes, and it is past time that we recognize and address structural racism and police brutality as the public health crises they are.
Thank you for taking action,
