John,
We’re proud to share that Summer Lee just reintroduced the Green New Deal resolution in Congress alongside AOC.
Some of our critics have called this plan too idealistic. But creating millions of good, union jobs all while repairing our infrastructure, reducing pollution, and building the 100% renewable energy future is not only possible, but necessary. The climate crisis is here and we need to meet it with the urgency and scope it deserves.
But there’s a lot more work to do, John. Will you split a donation between Summer and AOC’s campaigns today so they can keep fighting for a Green New Deal in Congress?
The Green New Deal (GND) envisions an economic mobilization much like what former President Franklin D. Roosevelt implemented during the Great Depression.
The GND also focuses on environmental justice — which means centering Indigenous and frontline communities that are suffering the worst effects of the climate crisis in the process.
Four years ago, very few people knew what a “Green New Deal” meant. But since then we’ve made a lot of progress:
– Last year, Congress made the biggest federal investment ever — $369 billion — to fight climate change through the Inflation Reduction Act.
– We secured another $100 million for 60 different local Green New Deal projects, stretching from Hawaii to Vermont.
– Our allies in Congress introduced 12 companion bills that apply the GND principles of jobs, justice, and climate to everything from agriculture to electric vehicles.
– Last Congress, more than half of Democrats sponsored a GND bill.
While the investment Congress made last year to fight the climate crisis was meaningful, it still left a lot of work undone — particularly when it comes to the intersection between racial justice and climate policy. We need your help to continue building our progress.
When it was first introduced, the GND was called ‘unrealistic’. But, thanks to your support and the leadership of reps like Summer, we won the largest climate investment in history last year.
Thank you for your support, it means the world.
