Late last week, Pramila went on to MSNBC to discuss House Republicans’ draconian debt limit bill. The bill is not expected to pass in the Senate, but it boldly disregards the level of economic crisis our country is facing.
Pramila said it best: Republicans are being incredibly hypocritical when it comes to throwing our economy into chaos. They claim to care about the state of our economy but House Republicans' first bill in Congress targeted IRS funding to stop agents from investigating the ultra-wealthy tax cheats to reduce the deficit.
Right now, Republicans are holding our economy hostage with this debt-limit bill — and it’s time for us to put our foot down and demand a clean debt ceiling bill immediately.
Under the Trump administration, Republicans passed a clean debt ceiling three times which allowed our government to increase the amount of spending the U.S. is authorized to borrow. And when they were in power, Republicans increased our country’s deficit by 7.2 trillion dollars in just under four years.1 During this time, Republicans moved with force to pass a number of spending increases and tax cuts for the wealthy that would add trillions to the national debt.
