John,
All eyes tomorrow will be on the local elections taking place in
8,000 council seats across the country.
For many conscientious of the weight placed on the next General
Election (take your pick between 'once in a lifetime' and 'Britain is
at a crossroads'), this ballot will be a weathervane for national
sentiment.
But for those of us who've seen this film before, trying to
extrapolate a national poll a year down the line from the nuances of
local voting patterns can make even the John Curtices of the world
feel like they're trying to split the atom.
To help us make sense of it all, I've written
a preview of what to expect and the caution we need to exercise as
the results come out.
If you're desperate to see the back of this Government as I am,
Friday's results will give us a small sense of how much work needs
doing to get us there.
Regardless of how big or small that challenge is, Best for Britain
are ready for the fight.
Best wishes,
Naomi Smith
CEO of Best for Britain
