Message from Rep. Tracey Mann. Having Trouble Viewing? Click Here. Fellow Kansan, Thank you for subscribing to my newsletter! I’m excited to update you on my work in Washington, D.C. and the First District of Kansas. It is an honor to represent Kansans in the Big First District in the 118th Congress. I do not serve in Congress to be a caretaker in the slow demise of America – I serve to fight and work to make it stronger, and I believe our brightest days are yet to come. Yours in service, Mann.House.Gov The Week Ahead This week, I’m hosting House Agriculture Committee Chairman GT Thompson in the district where we have an exciting schedule of events. Yesterday, we toured American Royal. Founded in 1899, American Royal is a non-profit organization that provides opportunities for nearly half a million young people and adults from around the world to engage in nationally competitive livestock shows, the world’s largest barbecue competition, regional and national equine shows, youth and professional rodeos, and elementary and secondary education outreach. We also met with Kansans representing Dairy Farmers of America, the Kansas City Ag Business Council, the Chicago Board Options Exchange, Seaboard, and Innovative Livestock Solutions. This morning, Chairman Thompson and I kicked off our Food and Agriculture Listening Session, where more than 100 members of the agriculture community came together with diverse perspectives to discuss the upcoming Farm Bill reauthorization. After the listening session, we headed to my alma mater K-State to meet with President Linton and participate in Farm Journal Foundation’s panel – “The Role of Innovation in Global Food Systems.” K-State is the leader in agricultural research and continues to educate and train our state and nation’s workforce. I am grateful for their leadership role in innovation that will help secure the future of American food and agriculture. This week is about giving Kansas ag producers and stakeholders a platform to showcase their strengths and share their perspectives with Chairman Thompson. As we work to reauthorize the Farm Bill, events like these are an investment that will pay dividends. Mann.House.Gov In the Office Voting for Republicans' Limit, Save, Grow Act Unlike Washington Democrats’ attempts to give President Biden another no-limit credit card, the Limit, Save, Grow Act proposes a sensible increase to the debt ceiling that will limit future government spending, reclaim unspent COVID money, reduce the federal regulatory state, and promote pro-growth energy and economic policies. The Limit, Save, Grow Act will save taxpayers more than $4.5 trillion over the next 10 years, decrease American dependence on Communist China, defund the IRS expansion, and curb inflation, all while protecting both our national defense and Social Security and Medicare benefits for seniors. I voted YES on this legislation because it’s the first step in a negotiation to get government spending under control and get our economy back on track. Click Here to Read My Full Statement. Watch My Mann Minute Here: House Natural Resources Committee Passes Rep. Mann's Legislation Striking Down the Biden Administration's Listing of the Lesser Prairie-Chicken I'm pleased that my legislation to strike down the Biden Administration's listing of the Lesser Prairie-Chicken passed in the House Natural Resources Committee and will now go to the House Floor for consideration. At a time when inflation is at a 40-year high and families are struggling to fuel their cars while keeping food on their tables, we should be working to eliminate barriers for the agriculture and energy sectors, not hamstring hardworking Americans with government overreach. Since this rule threatens the livelihoods of the men and women who feed, fuel, and clothe us all, I hope that all my colleagues in Congress will join me in refusing it. Mann.House.Gov Kansans in the Office Kansas Hospital Association It was great to see these members of the Kansas Hospital Association (KHA) in Washington, D.C. last week. I appreciated hearing about the current issues that facing are our Kansas hospitals and health care providers, and the ways in which we can address these issues. Thank you, KHA, for the work you're doing to support Kansas hospitals and the well-being of all Kansans. Kansas Livestock Association The Kansas Livestock Association (KLA), formed in 1894, is a trade association representing 5,700 members on legislative and regulatory issues. KLA members are involved in all segments of the livestock industry, including cow-calf, stocker, feedlot and dairy operations. Back in 1915, members of KLA were on Capitol Hill advocating for producers around the exact same issues that we’re looking at today – packers, stockyards, and animal health. Foot-and-mouth disease was wreaking havoc at the time, and Kansas producers stepped up to the plate to make a difference and fix problems. And here we are today, more than 100 years later, doing the exact same thing – partnering together to ensure that Kansas livestock producers thrive. I always enjoy meeting with KLA and hearing about their recent work. Thanks for stopping by! Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation Thank you to Chairman Zeke Rupnick of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation for meeting with me last week. The Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation is a federally recognized Tribe that is headquartered near Mayetta, Kansas. Chairman Rupnick and I discussed the Tribe’s federal priorities and legislation that I support, like the Kansas Indian Country Law Enforcement Improvement Act. It is an honor to represent the members of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation in Congress. Mann.House.Gov Happening Across the Country National Small Business Week April 30-May 6 Happy National Small Business Week! Small businesses help drive the American economy and define the American dream. They add brick and mortar to the values that make our country unique, like freedom, self-determination, and the pursuit of happiness. Kansas is home to more than 250,000 small businesses, and more than 80% of employees in the Big First are employed by small businesses. I am honored to represent the Big First on the House Small Business Committee, and I will continue to defend and support small businesses, their owners, their employees, and the American values that small businesses embody.
