It's National Teacher Appreciation Day!

Behind every successful person there's at least one teacher who nurtured their dreams and gave them the skills to succeed, so to our teachers – who are the backbone of our education system – we celebrate your work all year long.

The future of America is in our teachers' hands. Our educators provide a safe, welcoming environment for our children to develop the joy of learning and pursue their creative and intellectual interests.

Here are some ways we can support our teachers:

• Pay them what they're worth.
• Include their voices in decisions and law-making.
• Give them proper resources and stop the practice of making teachers pay for their own supplies.

I am committed to strengthening our education system so every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential. That starts with ensuring educators have the support and resources they need so they can focus on what matters most: teaching.

So today, don't forget to say thank you to the teachers you know and the ones who had an impact on your life!
