New York is banning fossil fuels in new buildings!
John,
Exciting news! This week, we won two massive victories: New York is set to pass the Build Public Renewables Act and a far-reaching and ambitious ban on gas hook-upsin new buildings statewide starting in 2026!
Because of thousands of committed people like you across the country, we’ve achieved another tremendous victory for the movement against fossil fuels.
New York sets an example for the rest of the country so more communities, states, and local governments can fight back against Big Oil & Gas and work to build a more livable future for all. Your support of Food & Water Watch made this victory possible.
This win is just the latest in a decade-long series of advances in New York. In 2014, our movement won a historic victory by banning fracking in New York. Since then, together, we’ve stopped a series of proposals for dirty power plants, pipelines, and other fracked gas infrastructure.
Less than two years ago, we banned gas hookups in new buildings in New York City, and now we celebrate another triumph by banning gas hookups in all new statewide buildings! It’s another powerful blow against the fossil fuel industry. And another hard-fought victory that was won because of our incredible allies and you.
Even as we celebrate these victories in New York, we know there is more work to do to move the country off fossil fuels. We’ll carry this momentum into urgent fights against fossil fuel pipelines, power plants, and drilling nationwide. Together we can move us off fossil fuels and usher in a renewable energy future.
Your commitment and support ensure we’ll never stop pushing back against greedy corporations and the government agencies that enable them. Corporations may have the money, but we know people power makes real change. And that’s why we won today in New York.
