The Writers Guild of America has gone on strike!
While Hollywood might seem glitzy and glamorous, a dream factory is still a factory. Writers in the entertainment industry are asking for fair pay and fair protections in the workplace. The bosses however, have rejected to even counter many of their basic demands. The workers have no choice but to strike.
As socialists, we must stand with workers when they withhold their labor and shutdown an industry in order to fight for their rights. These working writers are asking for our help and support – and it is time to show them we have their backs. That's why DSA-LA is #StrikeReady. Los Angeles is a major battlefront in this fight, we're ready to mobilize and support WGA on the picket-lines! Here's what you can do to help!
✍️ Sign up for strike information and updates! We'll let you know our strike support plans over the coming days, and potentially the coming weeks. We're in touch with WGA leadership and strike captains to coordinate turnout wherever it's needed most. Everybody is invited and encouraged to show up!
🪧 We'll be out on the picket line TODAY! For the first day of the strike, we're directing our members and allies to the Netflix offices on Sunset at 1PM! We'll be bringing coffee and donuts! Come join us if you can make it!
If the Netflix offices are too far away for you, there are tons of picket locations across the city! Please go to one that is most accessible to you. 🍕 Donate to The Snacklist! After the success of DSA-LA’s Tacos for Trabajadores campaign during the UTLA and SEIU strike, DSA-LA is ready to recreate that effort to support WGA workers. Funds raised through The Snacklist will be used to deliver hot coffee, food, snacks, and other necessities to strikers in the Los Angeles area.
