96 John,
There is certainly a fair amount of speculation as
to why so many elderly Americans are choosing to go back to work in
retirement – the steady decline in real wages and buying power due to
the Biden Administration’s record inflation being chiefly a main
observation.
“Many elderly Americans may want to do something that’s
got great flexibility. That takes me to being an independent contractor
or participating in the gig economy.”

A prime example of the gig economy is ride-share jobs, like Uber and
Lyft. Recently, Democrats have been pushing for cumbersome government
regulation, and requiring independent contractors to join the union.
Senator Braun is certainly a proponent of American workers having the
right to choose whether or not they participate in a union, especially
if it is in their best interest to protect against the disproportionate
power of large corporations, however…
He also wants to safeguard
elderly professionals from unions becoming entangled in “main street
small business”, such as we’ve seen become the current workspace
landscape.
This is precisely why Senator Braun led the effort to
spearhead this issue as the Ranking Member of the Senate Aging
Committee, writing a letter joined by 46 of his colleagues, urging the
Biden Administration to scrap a recent rule that negatively impacts
independent contractors and “businesses of one person”.
From working
moms to older workers, Americans value flexibility and the freedom to
be your own boss. President Biden’s policies and proposals would
destroy that opportunity for millions of hardworking men and women.
Not on Senator Braun’s watch!
