Manning Hosts HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra & Governor Cooper for Health Care Roundtable

This month, Congresswoman Manning welcomed Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra and Governor Roy Cooper to the Sixth District for a roundtable discussion at Triad Adult and Pediatric Medicine about the great work being done at Federally Qualified Healthcare Centers and the impacts of the Inflation Reduction Act on lowering prescription drug prices and capping the cost of insulin at $35 a month for Medicare recipients.

Manning Hosts Reproductive Rights Roundtable 

Congresswoman Manning and Secretary Becerra hosted a roundtable with North Carolina reproductive health care professionals and advocates to discuss the status of reproductive health care in North Carolina and share their actions to protect the health and freedoms of women and girls across the country.

Congresswoman Manning is Policy Co-Chair of the Democratic Women's Caucus, a member of the Pro-Choice Caucus, cosponsor of the Women’s Health Protection Act, and leading the reintroduction of the Right to Contraception Act, legislation to enshrine the right to access birth control into federal law, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives in the 117th Congress.

UNC Health Rockingham 
Congresswoman Manning toured UNC Health Rockingham to hear about the center's successes serving the people of the Sixth District and to discuss the challenges they face, including workforce shortages. 
Congresswoman Manning was proud to share her work in Congress to boost workforce development and discuss methods to strengthen the health care provider workforce in North Carolina.

Congresswoman Manning vistied the Shirley T. Frye YWCA of Greensboro to discuss their Healthy Moms Healthy Babies initiative. 
During her visit, she thanked the organization for their work helping Sixth District families get the support and preventative care they need. 

Manning Announces $5 Million in Federal Funding for Affordable Housing in Winston-Salem

Congresswoman Manning announced a $5 million federal grant awarded to the City of Winston-Salem to implement the Cleveland Avenue Homes Choice Neighborhood Project, known as the Newside Neighborhood.

NC-06 Manufacturing Industry Leaders Visit D.C.

Marshall Aerospace

Marshall Aerospace is bringing over 200 high-paying jobs & millions in investments to Greensboro with a new manufacturing facility at the Piedmont Triad International Airport (PTI). 
Rep. Manning was thrilled to welcome leaders from Marshall Aerospace to her office in D.C.

Toyota is bringing over 2,000 good-paying jobs to the Triad with their new electric vehicle battery manufacturing plant. 
Congresswoman Manning hosted leaders from Toyota in Washington, D.C. to share her efforts to grow North Carolina's manufacturing workforce & encourage clean technology manufacturing in the Sixth District.

The Volvo Group's North American Headquarters is located in Greensboro, North Carolina. Leaders from Volvo Group visited Congresswoman Manning's office to discuss their growth in the Triad.
 
 

Legislative Highlights

Manning Leads the Charge to Reaffirm the FDA's Authority to Approve Medication Abortion 

Congresswoman Manning, alongside her colleauge Congresswoman Yadira Caraveo, introduced legislation clarifying that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has the authority to approve medications for abortion care.

Congresswoman Manning introduced this resolution in response to the recent decision by a federal judge in Texas to revoke FDA approval of mifepristone, a medication used in medication abortion and for miscarriage management. 

The case made its way to the Supreme Court, where they ruled that mifepristone would remain available while the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals hears the underlying case.

Manning, Education & Workforce Committee Leaders Introduce Bipartisan Bill to Expand Apprenticeships

Congresswoman Manning, member of the House Education and Workforce Committee and Chair of the New Democrat Coalition Task Force on Workforce Development, joined a bipartisan group of members in introducing the National Apprenticeship Act of 2023.

The proposed legislation would create nearly 1 million new apprenticeship opportunities through Registered Apprenticeships (RAs), youth apprenticeships, and pre-apprenticeship programs.

The proposed legislation would also yield $10.6 billion in net benefits to U.S. taxpayers through increased worker productivity and decreased spending on public-assistance programs and unemployment insurance.

House Foreign Affairs Committee

Supporting Ukraine and Holding Russia Accountable 

Congresswoman Manning, Vice Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, attended a committee hearing where Prosecutor General Kostin of Ukraine testified about the brutal war crimes being committed by Russian forces in Ukraine.

Congresswoman Manning is committed to ensuring the United States continues to support Ukraine as they defend their democracy and hold Russia accountable for committing war crimes.

Education and Workforce Committee

Subcommittee Hearing on Lowering Health Care Costs 

Congresswoman Manning, a member of the Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Subcommittee, attended the Subcommittee's hearing on lowering health care costs for hardworking Americans.

At the hearing, Congresswoman Manning shared her family's experience with the exorbitant cost of medications and discussed ways that Congress can work to lower the cost of prescription drugs and health care for all.

North Carolina 2023 Teacher of the Year

This year's North Carolina Teacher of the year is Leah Carper from Northern Guilford High School. Congresswoman Manning welcomed Leah to her office to congratulate her on this honor.

HBCU STEAM Days of Action 
Congresswoman Manning stood alongside fellow members of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Caucus to kick off the annual HBCU STEAM Days of Action. 
"HBCUs deserve strong federal support so they can keep providing top-tier STEAM education. I’m proud to be an advocate for the HBCUs in my district," said Congresswoman Kathy Manning.

Piedmont Triad Apartment Association
Congresswoman Manning met with the Piedmont Triad Apartment Association in her Washington, D.C. office. She was happy to discuss her work in Congress to improve affordable housing options in the Sixth District.
