Susan Collins gets zero points for casting a meaningless vote to try to save her seat Indivisibles,
Thought you’d run out of things to be angry about? Think again: Susan Collins just announced on the Senate floor that she’s planning to vote to acquit Trump on both articles of impeachment. Her reasoning? "I believe that the president has learned from this case...the president has been impeached. That's a pretty big lesson.” 🙄
Let’s say it again: Collins cast a vote in favor of hearing from witnesses only once she was assured that McConnell had the votes to pass it without her (thanks to Lisa Murkowski and Lamar Alexander's pledges). As far as we're concerned, she gets zero points for casting a meaningless vote to try to save her seat.
Now we’ve got proof: when it really counts, she’s voting the party line that Trump is innocent -- without hearing from those witnesses she claimed to want to hear, or reviewing any of the boatload of new evidence that has come out since the House inquiry.
That’s Republican hypocrisy at its finest, and it’s exactly what we mean when we say we’re tired of the GOP hijacking our democracy. All they’re interested in is protecting Trump and protecting themselves. It’s time to vote them out and take back the Senate.
That’s why we started the Payback Project: we can’t leave our democracy to them anymore. It’s time to take back the power and put it in the hands of the people: and that means volunteer recruitment, organizing, advertising, getting out the vote, and much more. And all of that work to take back the Senate costs money, which is why we’re asking you: please, donate $10 to take back the Senate, support the Payback Project and all our work, and show Susan Collins we won’t stand for her hypocrisy.
This sham impeachment “trial” is just the latest in a string of anti-democratic nonsense from Republicans in the Senate. It’s time to vote them out.
In solidarity, Indivisible Team
