For the first time since 2008, the Writers Guild of America has gone on strike after negotiations with the hugely profitable corporations on the other side of the table broke down. The meteoric rise of streaming has brought an influx of profits into Hollywood, but the people who actually labor away writing the movies and television shows we love have seen very little of the proceeds. The guild's demands for fair wages, better working conditions, and safeguards against the rise of AI were categorically rejected as the two sides currently sit hundreds of millions of dollars apart. Eager to exploit the anti-trans mania sweeping across conservative America, Montana Republicans censured Zephyr, barred her from speaking or debating crucial issues, and banned her from the House for the crime of standing up for trans kids. In announcing the lawsuit, Zephyr said she is fighting for her 1st Amendment rights and the rights of her "11,000 constituents" whose voices must be heard. This is what courage looks like.

Today’s Action: Tell President Biden to declare a climate emergency!
The past few years have produced severe, record-breaking weather events that are only getting worse. If our legislators continue to ignore the looming climate crisis, these severe weather patterns will become the norm. Flash flooding, droughts, wildfires, failing infrastructure, pandemics — all symptoms of a sick planet that will wreak havoc and suffering on millions of people. As if the situation wasn’t dire enough, last March the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released a final warning to corporations and the federal government: we must stop using fossil fuels or we’ll reach the point of no return by the early 2030s.
This issue goes beyond party lines. Our legislators must come together to ensure the United States is doing everything in its power to reverse the damage done to our planet by decades of rampant fossil fuel exploitation.
To be clear, it is not the wealthy that will suffer most from these devastations — that burden will largely be shouldered by working-class families and marginalized communities. When life becomes untenable for the majority of the population, the ultra-rich will retreat to luxury bunkers that have been in the works for years.
We can’t afford to waste any more time.
