Hi friend,

Did you see Eva's email below? We're joining CAFOD, Global Justice Now and Christian Aid in calling for an end to the exploitation of cowboy lenders like BlackRock.

These private are acting like cowboys - making millions in interest payments while lower income countries are left without enough money to pay for health, education, or to tackle the climate crisis.

Together, we can get a new law to stop this kind of brazen greed. If you haven't already, take action and write to your MP to support a new law to Stop Cowboy Lenders.

Dear friend,

Right now, some of the world’s richest banks like BlackRock are making a fortune, while funds are being drained from the poorest countries in the world.

These lenders are acting like cowboys - making millions in interest payments while lower income countries are left without enough money to pay for health, education, or to tackle the climate crisis.

But together, we’ve got a chance to put a stop to this.

friend, find out more and take action

Incredibly, UK law plays a key role in enforcing debt contracts - 90% of the lending to lower income countries is enforced through UK courts. That means we can push for a new law to make cowboy lenders cancel debt.

The past few years have seen debts owed by some of the poorest countries mount up to unsustainable levels. Due to the economic crisis and high interest rates, 54 countries are now facing a debt crisis.

But instead of agreeing to cancel some of the debt, big banks and hedge funds are demanding it all - plus interest.

For countries like flood hit Pakistan, this is a disaster. 33 million people have been affected by flooding, made worse by the climate crisis. The country is due to spend over $20 billion this year alone on debt repayments, with speculators able to make over 200% profit.

Stop Cowboy Lenders, email your MP

Thousands of you took action last year to demand financial giant BlackRock cancel Zambia’s debt, and we made some real progress, ensuring Zambia had a stronger position in their negotiations. But a new law would mean BlackRock has to act.

This is our chance to make a real difference, message your MP today in support of a new law to Stop Cowboy Lenders.

In solidarity,

from Eva, Zak, Tim and the whole team at Debt Justice
