Dear
Friend,
Today, on this day that we focus on the power of oppressed and
working people around the world, we hope you will join the Green Party
in both voice and action in standing up for the rights of workers,
immigrants, and the 99%.
The Green Party of the United States has long promoted Earth
Day to May Day to highlight the deep connection between
our environment and the various movements for social change. We will
not win needed climate action without true systemic changes that
address the racial, social, and economic injustices that continue to
harm the earth, its people, and all the species that inhabit it.
Green Party activists are at the forefront of the movements for
democracy and justice not only at home, but around the globe.
-
We stand with oppressed people – from the Movement
for Black Lives, to the fight for reproductive freedom, to the battle
for LGBTQIA+ liberation, and beyond; the Green Party is there.
-
We fight for justice – from the picket line to the
ballot box, from the prisons to the schools, on the border and in the
streets, the Green Party remains committed to abolishing the school to
prison pipeline, promoting worker and immigrant rights, ending student
debt, and addressing the injustice that surrounds our lives.
-
We fight for the planet and the rights of nature –
promoting sustainable food, water management, and renewable energy;
while opposing dangerous and irresponsible tar-sands oil, fracking,
nuclear power and more.
The Green Party of the United States is the only political party in
this country that understands the deep connections between these
issues and can trace the roots of these struggles back to the
Ten
Key Values. The accelerating climate collapse intensifies
and connects all of the struggles for social and economic change and
provides new urgency for collaboration and action.

We have the solutions to build a sustainable world – what we lack
is the political will to do so. The political leaders in our country
are subservient to the military-industrial complex and the interests
of Wall Street. We need to create a new democratic and ecological
economy. We must define this economy with the rights of workers in
mind, not only their right to collectively bargain, but their right to
form and organize worker and community owned cooperatives where they
receive the full value of their labor. The stranglehold of capitalism
must be broken.
Our Ecosocialist Green New Deal, which we first called for back in
2010, requires the United States to reconstruct all economic sectors
for ecological sustainability, from agriculture and manufacturing to
housing and transportation. This means millions of new jobs in a
democratized economy where public ownership and democratic control
replace the drive to maximize profits for the 1%. The Green Party
strongly criticizes attempts to co-opt, redirect, and water down that
message with the recent reintroduction of the AOC-Markey resolution
which will make no real strides in addressing the current climate
crisis. We
urge AOC and other leaders in congress to embrace the Green Party's
Original Green New Deal.
Please consider making a
special May Day contribution to the Green Party as a
consistent voice in support of the rights of all individuals and in
the creation of a different world based on the common good.
Earth Day Every Day and Solidarity Forever,
Mark Dunlea and DawnMarie Green
