Donald Trump will deliver his third State of the Union address to Congress tonight … But we already know the sorry state of our union thanks to Trump and Trumpism.
Our democracy and the rule of law are in tatters following a complete sham of a Senate impeachment trial in which Republicans chose to stage a shameful cover-up rather than honor their oath of office…
And because of Trump’s hate-fueled agenda and the record numbers of far-right judges he and Mitch McConnell have put on the federal bench, the fundamental rights of countless Americans are hanging by a thread…
As Trump gets set to take the national stage, I’m writing to ask that you reaffirm your commitment to defending the American Way and defeating Trump and Trump Republicans at the ballot box this year.
We need only to look around us to see the disastrous repercussions that countless people across the country are facing at the hands of the Trump administration:
- The “Tax Cuts and Jobs Act” has proven to be yet another Trump con job, with recent news reports indicating it has been nothing more than a windfall for the wealthiest Americans and corporations – with over 90 giant corporations paying NO federal income taxes last year.
- Health care for millions across the country is in serious jeopardy as the Trump administration continues their push to overturn the Affordable Care Act – a case currently before the Supreme Court – which would spell an unmitigated disaster for the wellbeing of countless people.
- Due to Trump’s ongoing trade wars, farmers across the country are facing unprecedented levels of bankruptcy (up 20% this past year) as crops are left unbought by foreign nations that are otherwise reliable consumers of our exports.
- Despite his promises, Trump has sought to slash Social Security along with Medicare and Medicaid, with BILLIONS in proposed cuts for each program.
- Immigrant children are STILL being separated from their families while Trump and his Republican enablers ramp-up their anti-immigrant hatred heading into election season.
At EVERY step of the way, Republicans have been complicit. And while congressional Republicans enable the worst of his behavior with endless excuses, American democracy faces an existential threat and the most vulnerable among us are left to deal with the repercussions of Trump Republicans’ disastrous and cruel policies.
It’s painful to imagine what another term of a President Trump might mean for the country … and what a supportive McConnell Senate would allow him to get away with in a second term – after all, they’re about to partake in one of the gravest Constitutional injustices our nation has witnessed by completing the cover-up of his wrongdoing in the Senate impeachment trial.
It’s really not an exaggeration to say that the stakes could not be higher in this election. It’s also why your renewal donation is needed now more than ever before. Your support now will help us END the Trump presidency, FLIP the senate, and elect progressives across the country.
