Millions of people will be cut off from care in my state if the new six-week ban signed by Florida Gov. DeSantis takes effect. It's a painful, distressing, infuriating time to be a Floridian. Gov. DeSantis has ignored the overwhelming majority of voters — 64% of us — who believe that abortion should be legal in most or all circumstances.

My state isn't the only one pushing bans through our state legislatures and courts.

Our neighbors in Georgia and Alabama also face strict abortion bans — and if Gov. DeSantis's six-week abortion ban goes into effect, Florida will no longer be a place for our neighbors across the Southeast, Caribbean, and Central and South America to get the care they need. The more abortion bans spread, the fewer options we'll have. The crisis just keeps growing. There are 19 states that now ban all or some abortions.

Even places where abortion access is protected are under threat. It took just one judge in Texas to temporarily block FDA approval of mifepristone nationwide. For now, the U.S. Supreme Court has protected access to medication abortion — but this fight is far from over.

These politicians aren't putting health care first.

They're trying to make it inaccessible and inefficient, and they're doubling down on their efforts. That's why we're mobilizing folks across our state, in the Southeast, and around the country, because we won't back down from this fight. It will take all of us in Florida and everywhere to build and create a movement that will put an end to these extreme, anti-abortion laws.
