Dear John,

The countdown has begun.

Yesterday was the first day of the 2020 legislative session, and that means we only have 34 days to pass a climate bill that will hold polluters accountable; a bill that will keep our air clean, our forests and farms thriving, and our communities healthy for generations to come.

With just a few weeks to go, it’s never been more crucial to show legislators that Oregonians support a strong climate bill. Next Tuesday, join us for our biggest climate event of the year—Oregon’s Climate Emergency Rally!

Oregonians from across the state will join together on the Capitol steps to make our support for climate action loud and clear. This will be a fun day where you can make new connections and get more involved in the climate movement. Feel free to invite friends, family, neighbors, coworkers...anyone you know! The more voices we have in support of clean energy, the better. Please RSVP today!

Big Oil representatives have already been in the Capitol for weeks, trying to weaken and kill the climate bill (now known as Senate Bill 1530). We’re fighting hard to make sure that this legislation will be strong and equitable. Oregon needs to reduce our carbon emissions as quickly as possible to stay on track with goals set by the world’s leading scientists. We can’t afford to weaken the bill in order to cater to industrial polluters. Join us in rallying for a bill that will not only reduce our emissions, but also create good-paying jobs in solar, wind, energy efficiency, and more.

All of us need to come together and show legislators our overwhelming support for climate action. It’s never been more urgent. Can you make it? RSVP today for Oregon’s Climate Emergency Rally!

We need everyone to get involved—the parents (like me) who worry about the world we’re leaving for our children; the young people who know that their climate fates will be sealed before they even graduate college; the folks who work closely with the land, and the sea, and know the dangers of climate change firsthand; the people who hear about climate change on the news night after night, and worry about how much worse it’s getting, and know that they finally need to stand up and take action before we run out of time. We need every one of you to rally for Oregon’s future. Nothing can stop us if we join together.

You can also get involved by testifying in support of climate action at a special weekend hearing, this Saturday, February 8th at 10am. Testifying is easy, and we’ll help you through the process. Click here to RSVP for the February 8th Climate Hearing!

As the legislative session progresses, we’ll be in touch with more ways you can take action on climate, including events, emails to legislators, and more, so stay tuned.

It’s hard to say for sure what exactly the next 34 days have in store. But, by the end of it, we hope to pass a historic climate bill that will change Oregon’s history forever, and we’re so grateful to have you on our team through it all.

Thank you,
Doug Moore
Executive Director, OLCV

Staying in touch via the Oregon League of Conservation Voters’ email list is the best way we have of keeping in regular contact with supporters like you and letting you know about the ways you can take action to protect the environment. You can unsubscribe from our supporter list, but if you leave, it will be harder for you to stay involved with OLCV and continue the work that you’ve been such a critical part of. OLCV wins environmental policy fights and elections because of dedicated activists like you, and we’d hate to see you go.
