We appreciate their efforts at transparency, but the execution failed.
Last night was an embarrassment for the Democratic Party, and if we don’t continue to make structural changes, disasters like Iowa will continue to happen.
That’s why Our Revolution has consistently been one of the only organizations focused on reforming the national Democratic party and the 57 state and territorial parties.

In 2016, there were issues with the delegate count despite there only being two relevant candidates in Iowa.
That’s why we pushed so hard in the Unity Reform Commission to make sure there was a requirement for a headcount in addition to reporting delegates.
The Iowa party had two years since the Unity Reform Commission to get this process right, but instead, they relied on technology that wasn’t fully tested and a backup plan that failed to materialize. We appreciate their efforts at transparency, but the execution failed.
During the commission, we argued for more states to have primaries, and set more rules for those states that decided to continue with caucuses. Moving forward, we need to focus on voting rights in the party nominating process at all levels.
We’ve made progress on how this party functions but we have a long way to go. Pitch in now to help us to continue to fight for a more democratic Democratic party.
Onward,
Larry Cohen
